This course is designed to develop specific underground metalliferous mining geomechanics design competencies for engineers to enhance their contribution to mine site geomechanics programs. The course covers critical geotechnical aspects of geomechanical mine design, including the geomechanical data required for design of mine drives, stopes and pillars.

Course topics include:

  • Intact rock strength

  • Discontinuities

  • Rock mass characterisation

  • Stresses in rock masses

  • Rock mass failure criteria

  • Excavation design

  • Stope design

  • Numerical modelling

  • Pillar design

The hybrid event format allows for participation either in-person, or online from anywhere in the world. This course contributes for up to 20 personal development hours.
